This mini-course will focus on immune responses to viruses, and development of vaccines and therapies against human pathogenic viruses. The first lecture will cover general aspects of viral immunity, while the remaining lectures will involve in-depth discussions of primary manuscripts related to viral pathogenesis, innate/adaptive immune responses to viruses, vaccine-targeting immune-based preventatives and therapies, and related topics. Each of the primary manuscripts will be presented by an assigned student leader, and each lecture will be led by two of the four lecturers of the course. It is expected that at the completion of this course, students will have a better understanding of the intricate interactions between pathogenic viruses and their hosts at the cellular and organismal level, and of the prophylactic and therapeutic approaches being pursued to prevent or treat viral infections."
