Course Description: This is an introductory course designed for students with a solid biology background who have little or no experience with computer programming and bioinformatics. Students will be introduced to the basics of Python language programming, sequence analysis and analysis of gene expression (e.g., by next generation sequencing). Class time will be divided between small group problem solving sessions, short lectures, and discussions of published research that illustrates important principles in bioinformatics. Students will be expected to complete programming projects (and read relevant papers) outside of class. Students will need a laptop.
