Course Description: The most aggressive cancers display an embryonic stem cell signature. Additional mutations or changes in the tumor microenvironment can allow cells within a tumor to turn back time by acquiring a stem cell-like program. Lectures by Emmanuelle Passegue, William Weiss and others will give students an up-to-date about recent discoveries in the cancer stem cell field. This course will allow students to understand the mechanisms that induce stemness in cancer and how it contributes to therapy resistance. At the end of the course, students will have tools to study the cell of origin in cancer, reprogramming of both somatic and tumor cells, cancer stem cells.
